Verizon wants to place a cell tower on Kanan Road in Oak Park. An article in today’s (2-8) VC Star reports that plans for this tower and 5 others in the county, submitted to the County Public Works Department, were discussed at the VC Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday (2-7).
Unfortunately, the county does not have a say on whether cell phone towers are installed or not, but they do have a say in appearance and height. According to the VC Star, the county can ask that cell tower appearance be improved on private property, but there are no regulations at this time, for public property and public right of ways in unincorporated Ventura County.
Our VC Supervisor for the Conejo Valley, Linda Parks, is quoted as saying that the tower in Oak Park, “…Stands out like a sore thumb,” and further says that she doubts the Oak Park community would support it. Right on! I know that Linda will do all she can for Oak Park.

It’s obvious that there are no regulations on appearance. But then, everybody has their own idea of what is acceptable. How many of those fake trees have you driven past and why didn’t they just put giant gorillas on top of them like the car dealers? We know what they are, they don’t blend in, so make me smile.
Everybody wants better cell service but nobody wants to have the equipment in their back yard. Would you give up that pretty pink iPhone for a tower free neighborhood? Let’s back science and technology in our schools so our kids can come up with a better solution.

Just a suggestion. Order an EMF (Electromagnetic Field) instrument from the internet and check out the cell towers and/or transmission lines near you if you are concerned. We checked out the EMF’s right next to a regular cell phone and the readings were unbelievably very high!

We have to figure out how to improve reception out here. It was non-existant after the 1994 earthquake. I find it difficult. It is distressing as I repond to issues of life and death.
