A few minutes ago, around 5 PM, I drove by the Thousand Oaks Teen Center and Goebel Senior Center, on my way to the main Thousand Oaks Library. The parking lot was pretty full in front of the Teen Center. It was pretty empty in front of the Senior Center, but there was a multi-age group of about 6 people gathered around a shaded picnic table in front of the building. I wondered if the evacuation center had been moved for the fire in Moorpark, since there were so few cars, yet I could see the smoke rising in the northern sky.
Upon leaving the library, I turned out on Janss Road, at the entrance with the traffic light, and then I saw the simple and classic sign that promises help and shelter in time of emergency. It was the short-armed, equal-lengthed Red Cross on a field of white, with the name, American Red Cross, under it. That small, square sign was taped on to the concrete Conejo Creek Park sign.Â
That answered my question, and gave me pause to wish well to whomever remained at the shelter.Â
Since I have been home, I have checked the Ventura County Fire website, which is:  http://fire.countyofventura.org/. The Guiberson Fire has burned 16,100 acres and. is 40% contained. For evacuation information, that site referred me to a website for the Ventura County Sheriff, which gave a 5:52 PM update. It said that the evacuation of the Campus Park area in Moorpark has been lifted, which is probably the reason for the empty Senior Center parking lot.

I have heard the shelter use was rather light this go round. But bless the Red Cross for all the work they do.
