Possibility of Adding Calabasas to Coverage Area

September 24th, 2009 · 4 Comments · Conejo Valley, Las Virgenes

I am considering adding Calabasas and some adjacent unincorporated areas to the scope of the Conejo Post.  I already cover the State Parks of Malibu Creek and Paramount Ranch, along with the MRCA-operated King Gillette Ranch Park, and all of them are technically out of the Conejo.

It is like I see the Conejo Valley bookended to the west by the hills that mark where the grade starts to descend to Camarillo, and a little further in, by the National Park land with Mount Boney and the Satwiwa Center.  The bookends to the east are Ahmanson Ranch, which is now a park managed by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy and the state parks I just mentioned.

A lot of the area I am thinking about including is rural, like the Cornell area south of the 101 Freeway, near Kanan Road.  Other possible rural areas are Triunfo Canyon, Malibou Lake, Monte Nido, and Old Topanga.  Then there are is the suburban development along Las Virgenes Road, both north and south of the 101, and areas to the west and north of the 101 that are unincorporated Los Angeles County.

These Calabasas and Los Angeles County areas are like a continuation of the Conejo and we all face  similar issues.  I just wanted you to know that this is a possibility and if you want to weigh in with a comment, please do.

HI Janna – good idea!!! Calabasas is adjacent to the unincorporated area of LA county and a good addition to your sphere of influence. I hope you will add Calabasas to your area of coverage.

I think that would be great. Many thing that go on in Calabasas impact us. So it is a good idea.

Most of these areas have always been part of the Conejo. Anything that you see on the downside of the Calabasas grade. Used to be that there was a more distinct seperation between the Conejo and the Valley. The Las Virgenes part is actually part of the city of Calabasas. Parts of Calabasas used to be Agoura and then Calabasas Hills and now just plain Calabasas with an Agoura zip. (thanks to the RE valuation) The same goes for Agoura, Agoura Hills, Malibu lake and Cornell. The cities incorporated and divided us all but we are all still Conejo.
For my two cents you can leave Monte Nido and Old Topanga to the Valley. (Too far east). As for the south, even though anything past Mulholland is more consistant with the rural atmosphere of Conejo, they pride themselves with being Malibu so you can leave Calamigos out too. (even though Grant is a staple in Agoura)

Yes, the region from the Calabasas grade to the Camarillo grade, whatever you call it, is linked geographically, economically, socially, historically, and culturally. There is even a great deal of political linkage via cooperation between the various political entities within the region. One organization that has long recognized this is the Conejo/Las Virgenes Future Foundation. http://clvff.blogspot.com/
