Coauthors Harry Medved, Derek Ross, and David Ross, signing books at Oak Hills School. Coauthor Harvey Kern not in photo.
I couldn’t wait until the booksigning at the Westlake Village Barnes and Noble to get a copy of the brand new Oak Park history book, in the Images of America Serices…so I stopped by the booksigning at Oak Hills Elementary School in Oak Park last night, and I am so glad I did!
I have hardly been able to put it down…who knew that Oak Park had so much history? And,what fun are the photos of roaming sheep and cattle that used to graze in the community ,or new tract homes with station wagons in the driveways and little stick trees planted in front yards and parks! Throw in tales and photos of celebrities associated with the land, the founding of the school district, and the activists’ battles to save parkland, and you have quite a book.
The official kick-off event is this coming Thursday evening (5-31) from 6:30 to 9 PM at the Barnes and Noble bookstore in the Westlake Promenade. Drop by and meet the authors and Pat Manning as well, who was the founding president of OPUSD.
Thanks to coauthors Harvey Kern, David Ross, Derek Ross and Harry Medved with persevering in gathering photos, stories and documents to put together in this wonderful photo history or Oak Park!
Photo of cover of book is of Barbara DeMinico and daughters Sharon and Paula.
