I have always had confidence that I will receive my mail from the Post Office when I get back from a vacation and my temporary “vacation hold” is lifted. The mail delivery stoppage has always worked like a charm, that is, till this week. I used to turn in a yellow card at the Agoura Hills Post Office with the dates of when I wanted the mail stopped, and when I wanted it resumed, with all the mail delivered on the restart date. Then, I switched to the internet to note my vacation delivery holds on the USPS website, and that worked well, too.
However, my Monday mail delivery, after it had been stopped for a week, consisted of 3 pieces of mail! Thinking that my week’s stack of mail was probably still sitting in the Post Office, and drove there to find it out. The answer? No mail for me was there! After much checking back and forth by phone with a Post Office spokesperson (who was very courteous), the final message left on my phone late this afternoon (6-5), was, “That was it!” According to the spokesperson, the carrier had delivered all my held mail on Monday!
In the meantime, a man came to my door, carrying a USPS mail tray, almost full of envelopes, big and small. It turns out, the tray of my held mail had been dropped off at a house 2 streets away from me, with a different address number! He was puzzled as to why his house had received my mail, and so was I. But, one thing is for sure. I am so grateful to this man I did not know, who took the time to bring me mail. I don’t even know his name, but I think he is awesome!
Now, about the Post Office…
