Eco-nerd sent this in as a comment to the previous post, but I want to publish this as a separate post, because it is so easy to be critical of the Post Office, when 1 transaction or delivery out of 100+ goes wrong.
“ The Postal Service is in financial dire straits and their answer locally is to push the carriers to squeeze every second that they can save on street time. All this while remaining extremely heavy at the supervisor level. Heck, you need a lot of those whip wielding lion tamers to get the lowly cat carriers back from the street on time. There’s more needed than a bail out for the Post Office. They need to reevaluate the entire system while concentrating on the services that are still in demand.
Those things that we order over the Internet still need to be delivered and there’s probably nobody better suited to secure those items than someone that comes to your house on a daily basis. So be extra nice to you Postal Carrier today. They are the bottom rung on a system that doesn’t work and yet they are the ones that are ultimately responsible for the reputation of the Post Office.”
Thanks, Eco-nerd, for the perspective.
