Mary Wiesbrock, Chair of Save Open Space, Santa Monica Mountains, in an open letter to guitarist David Evans, known as “The Edge”:
“Why are you trying to destroy a major viewshed in our national park, by attempting to build a compound on a nearby ridge in the Santa Monica Mountains? Do you know that the Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area (SMMNRA) is the most visited national park in the U.S., with 35 million annual visitors? Let our visitors have the experience of our urban wilderness, unmarred by views of mansions on the ridgeline!

It’s not just the view shed but the environmental impact that this mega compound would impose on the surrounding area.
Just when you think that the battle has been won, big money lawyers up. Yes, he owns this swatch of land but he bought it with restrictions imposed. Isn’t like the super rich to think that they can change the rules? Mr Evans says that he has no involvement in the current bill but I smell a giant dead rodent here (along with other sensitive species that would be displaced with the construction of this mega ‘green’ compound).
Please help send a message that fame and fortune must live by the rules that the rest of us abide by.
