I am saddened to post that Margot Feuer passed away on Saturday, June 16. It was Margot Feuer, along with Jill Swift, and Sue Nelson who fought to save the Santa Monica Mountains in the 1970′s. Their perseverance paid of in November, 1978, when President Jimmy Carter signed the bill that created the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.
Margot was 89 and remained unwavering in her strong commitment to SMMNRA. I had the great pleasure to meet her a few times…once on a tour of Ahamanson Ranch, and twice, sitting at her table at an awards banquet of the Las Virgenes Homeowner’s Federation. On those 3 occasions, I was so impressed with her intellect, as she talked on various subjects, including her beloved national park, and her outgoing personality and charisma. I know she will be missed by many, including me. She was the last of the trio of women who saved the Santa Monicas for us; Sue Nelson died at 76 years old in 2003, and Jill Swift died at 79 years old in 2008.
Here in the Conejo Valley, we owe such a debt of gratitude to these 3 women, because we are surrounded the SMMNRA…never more than a few minutes from it, no matter where we are in the valley.

Margot will be missed. Margot, along with my mom Jill Swift and Susan Nelson, made the Santa Monica Mountains (National Park) what is is today. I am so sorry for the Feuer Family’s loss.
