In 1940, there were 69,685 people living in Ventura County, according to the 1940 Census. A story in the 7-15 VC Star gives the population figures for different age groups, and breaks down the population by race, somewhat.
What I enjoyed about the article were the details of life in different parts of the County, giving us a picture of what it was like to live in the VC, back then.
I am looking forward to delving into the 1940 census info after 9-30, when the article said that the data will be searchable by last names, for the whole United States. Might get a picture of what my family was like, too.
