Yup, I have done the easy part of signing up to be a candidate for a board seat at Calleguas Municipal Water District. That was dropping by the Ventura County Government Center in Ventura (actually, I guess coming from the Conejo Valley, it is not exactly dropping by, to go to Ventura, but it was an easy drive yesterday), and talking to the helpful clerks at the Elections Division. I had to sign some forms and then Monica went through the check sheet for non-partisan races, with all the forms that I still had to fill out.
But, does Ventura County hand out the forms anymore, like they did in 2006 or 2010? No! All the forms, along with the county instruction booklet are now on a CD. What if a candidate is not computer literate? What if they only have an iPad or other tablet? I don’t know. Anyway, I guess I will struggle through the instructions and forms, but I surely find a booklet easier to look through in a speedy fashion, and I don’t have to be sitting at my computer to do it.
So, now you know what I will be doing this weekend, when I can’t put it off any longer! I will be filling out forms and writing a candidate’s statement. That is, if I choose to do so, because it costs $1,100 to include a candidate’s statement in the Voter’s Pamphlet for the office I am running for, so you can see my hesitation on this!!!
Finally, I will have to decide on what designation or description of vocation I want on the ballot under my name, but that is a story in itself…
