Econerd On Public Spaces in the Conejo Valley

August 6th, 2012 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Econerd emailed the following:  “Thousand Oaks would like you to believe that The Lakes is their answer to a public gathering place but we all know how that worked out.

The suburb was the American dream of owning a piece of land after the war and the Conejo became the ‘country’ of the suburbs. No matter how hard our planners and developers try, the Conejo will never become the cool urban center that is popular today.

One of the problems with suburbs is that we must spend a great deal of our time commuting.  We drive to work, school and the market so social interactions for many consist of honks and various hand gestures. The Janss and The Oaks have both been fairly successful in pulling people together for summer music venues that don’t outwardly revolve around commerce. I would recommend Conejo Creek Park, Gardens of the World or maybe the children’s area of the Conejo Botanic Garden. But don’t expect a lot of social interaction because most of us will be busy driving somewhere.”
