At about 8:30 last night, the living room, where I was sitting, suddenly went dark and the TV dark and silent. What a surprise! The whole house had no lights or noise and no light coming in from the windows.
The first challenge was to find my smart phone that lights up for a few seconds when I turn it on. The next challenge was to find the votive candles I keep in the pantry for electrical outages, and my last challenge was to find the matches. In retrospect, I wonder why I didn’t go for some flashlights first, but I guess that was because they are in a messier place than the pantry.
With a little light, I next went out the front door, to see how far down the street the darkness extended, and couldn’t see any lights at all. So, it was at least my block without electricity, and maybe more.
I hung out with the candles and flashlights a while, as the lights and TV flicker on and off a few times, and finally turned in. But, I am sure you know the drill…the lights and TV went back on just before midnight, and I awoke with a start, but after turning off everything, finally retired for a peaceful summer night’s sleep.
What is left is the question of why there was an electrical outage last night. It was not particularly hot to create an overload, and I did not hear a crash that would have indicated a transformer blowing. Hmmmmm…
