Oak Park Makes It to the Big Time, with Harry Medved on KCRW

September 5th, 2012 · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

Oak Park has been discovered, not only as a great place to live, but also as a movie location for westerns and John Steinbeck films!  We can thank Oak Park resident and film historian, Harry Medved for the community’s new fame.

As a co-author of “Oak Park,” in the Images of America series by Arcadia Publishing, Harry researched movies filmed here and celebrities who owned the land.  The book is fascinating to read, and an interview of Harry by Lisa Napoli on KCRW is fascinating to hear.  Here is a link to the interview on August 27:  http://blogs.kcrw.com/whichwayla/2012/08/the-best-kept-real-estate-secret-is-also-a-film-location/

You can also click on almost 10 minutes of film clips of movies filmed in Oak Park, put together by Marc Franklin Franklin Video and Productions, Inc.  Thank you, Harry, Marc, for getting the word out about Oak Park and the Conejo Valley…will there now be a land rush of folks looking for the perfect blend of country living, but close to L.A.?  And, thanks to the other authors of the Oak Park, book, too…Harvey Kern, David Ross, and Derek Ross.  To read a previous post on the book and movies, go to:  www.conejopost.com/archives/10620

I love seeing the video along with the explanations. Perhaps the remnants of a ranch near China Flat is from a movie.

“Faster,” by the way, was filmed on my street. They drove around and around in circles for 3 hours getting one scene.
