It is often a toss-up for me, whether to drive Malibu Canyon or Topanga Canyon when I am heading for L.A.’s Westside. One morning this past week, Topanga won the coin toss, and I started out from home around 9:15. I thought I would have a a drive through to the Westside at normal speed, and didn’t even stop to consider that Topanga Canyon might have a morning rush hour.
Well, I think the Canyon does have a rush hour and I think I was in it! For at least 2/3 the length of the canyon, from Mulholland Drive to PCH, driving was stop-and-go. I kept thinking I would eventually meet up with some construction, but there was none. Perhaps the light at PCH really slows down traffic, when there is a lot of it.
Now I know, and will not drive through the hippy-dippy canyon again at that time of morning! The bright side of travelling slow was that I got to take photos while stopped that I would not otherwise have had a chance to.
The first photo is of an art wall, perhaps not everyone would agree with that name, so let’s say a wall of creative expression! Photo two looks like some kind of Goddess, but I am clueless as to who it is. There is a neat effect in the photo, that looks like rays of light. For more info on the Goddess and/or Buddha… and the creators, Kedrick Wolfe, Liz Shepherd and David Totheroh, according to the linked article…

Thanks, Sam, for emailing me with the info that the Goddess is actually a Buddha! I am putting a link to a website about the painting’s creators at the end of the post.
