I appreciated receiving an email from Dr. Tony Knight, Superintendent of Oak Park Schools this morning. He said that he is asking the Oak Park MAC to look at 3 areas of traffic safety concern at the October MAC meeting. One of the areas was the Conifer Street crosswalk whict the driver ran through this morning, with students and adults in it.
Dr. Knight wants the MAC in October, to consider the ” Idea of installing a flashing light that is activated when someone wants to cross to Brookside School on Conifer Street in the current crosswalk at the T-Intersection at Conifer Street and Oakleaf Avenue.” He continued, “The principals from each of the schools will be there (at the MAC meeting) and I expect to be as well. As you know, we always want to work with you to improve the safety situation at the schools and mitigate traffic problems to the greatest extent possible. ”
I think this is a solution to that problem street crossing, and probably the only way to get the total attention and compliance of drivers. But, what about in meantime? What can we do to make the crosswalk safer, while waiting for the MAC to consider solutions, and then put them into action?

Just Great. Another stop light that take 3 to 4 minutes to go through its cycle because Ventura County has to have a left hand turn signal on every single light if it needs it or not. As it is, it takes me 20 minutes to go 2 miles if I get the light. Let us have a light on every corner so it really backs up and gridlocks.

Traffic at school drop off locations has always been a problem. Now add a 40%+ out of area student population and ask the MAC to fix it. Good move Dr Knight. Maybe the MAC can also do something about the increased pollution and wear and tear on the infastructure.
