Hungry Hummingbirds Flock to Dani’s Feeders

September 15th, 2012 · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

The backyard of Dani Brusias is a hummingbird’s delight!  Dani asked me to come and see her rapid-winged visitors in the late afternoon, a few weeks ago.  I had never seen so many hummingbirds in one place in my life!

There was a hum in the air from all the flapping wings of the birds as they flew in to snack at one of the many feeders hanging around the patio.  And, the birds were darting so fast, that I thought I should wear goggles, in  case one misjudged, and flew into my face…but of course, that didn’t happen.

It was so special to see all the birds, and also to realize Dani’s commitment to feeding them, because some feeders had to be filled a few times a day, because there is such demand.

I found the Brusias garden, not only to be a delightful place for hummingbirds, but for humans as well.  Thanks for inviting me, Dani!

The photo shows 2 birds alight on the feeder, and one coming in for a landing on the right.

Great article, I also have started a humming bird feeder here in Hueneme Bay.
What formula does Dani use for her liquid?

I started with a brand sold at WalMart and the birds loved it. My stock ran out, WalMart stopped selling the $3 brand, so I went to Petco, but the birds refuse the $5 Petco’s brand – went on line – made 4 cups water to 1 cup pure sugar blended in water just before boil, let it cool, placed it yesterday but no birds back yet.
