bmommyx2 on Traffic and Schools in Oak Park

September 26th, 2012 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Conejo Post reader, bmommyx2, sent in this comment, which I am publishing as a separate post, since she brings up a new issue…the impact of additional students at OPUSD on the Rancho Simi Parks and Recreation Department (RSRPD) programs:

“I was very upset when I thought 1/3 of the students in Oak Park were from outside of the district, but but 40% is just crazy.  Maybe they (OPUSD)… should eliminate middle school or close one of the elementary schools if there are not enough students to support it.

I think a lot of the traffic is due to the out-of-district students.  Also I am sure they are having an impact on the RSRPD’s after school programs.  Last I checked, there was a waiting list of 14 kids for the afternoon program.  As an Oak Park resident I am frustrated by both the burden to the schools and programs, and the insane amount of traffic on Kanan and backing up to the surrounding streets.  They should at least have different start times at the schools if they can’t do anything else.  Also the number of cars making U-turns on Kanan at Deerhill is an accident waiting to happen.”
