California State Parks close to the Conejo Valley could be closing because of California’s budget crunch, according to a story in Saturday’s Ventura County Star. On the list for possible closing are Malibu Creek State Park on Las Virgenes Road, and Malibu Lagoon State Beach, and Leo Carillo State Park in Malibu. Also on the list are Point Mugu State Park, McGrath State Beach in Oxnard, and in Ventura, San Buenaventura Sate Beach and Emma Wood State Park.
Out of 220 state parks, only 59 are suggested to remain open. Governor Schwarzenegger, on Friday, also proposed more cuts to education and to Home Services for the Disabled, and a 5% cut in the pay for 235,000 state employees. These possible cuts total $2.8 billion. What a sad time for our state!
