Whenever a city or community is crafting a General Plan or General Plan update, it is a very special time. Residents get  to ask themselves how they want there community to be and grow and change, and then give input to officials.
Agoura Hills is in the process of updating their General Plan now, and tonight at 5 PM, the Agoura Hills City Council is holding a work session that is open to the public, at the Agoura City Hall.Â
One possible plan change that is of special interest to me is the suggestion of a mixed use designation for 3 shopping centers at or near the Thousand Oaks Blvd/Kanan Rd. intersection. To identify the centers further, they are anchored by Von’s and Ralph’s, plus one where the Agoura Famous Deli is located. When I talked to the Planning Department a few months ago, there were no details suggested yet, like a height allowance for the buildings. Also, I am assuming it includes residential. I want to get that question answered.
Even though I do not live in Agoura Hills, I plan to go to this meeting and put in my 2 cents worth. I drive by these shopping areas every day and the traffic is already quite heavy coming in and out of them. Kanan Road is one of the two entries into Oak Park and again traffic is very heavy at times, due to work and school driving.  Add in Agoura Hills High School traffic on Thousand Oaks Blvd., and I believe we need ways to reduce traffic instead of add to it.

These are shopping centers that have parking lots that you cannot get in and cannot get out. Until the parking and traffic problems are addressed and improvements made no increased use or mixed use should go forward. PERIOD.

The entire city of Agoura Hills is a lesson in bad planning. ie the Kanan interchange, Roadside Dr, the traffic circle on Kanan & Agoura Rd.
If you remember the few times that the 101 had to be closed, you will remember the 3 hours that it took to go from Kanan to Reyes Adobe on side streets.
When will they learn that they should first fix the problems at hand before tackling new projects?
