At the Tuesday (12-14) Ventura County Board of Supervisors meeting, the board voted 4-1 to require that candidates for County Treasurer-Tax Collector meet some professional standards. This, according to a story in the Ventura County Star on Wednesday (12-15), which says that a candidate must fulfill one of the following requirements: “experience in a ‘senior financial management’ position at a public agency; a bachelor’s or graduate degree in business administration, finance, accounting or a related field with at least 16 unites in accounting or finance, or certification as an accountant, financial analyst or cash manager.”
Politics aside, these seem pretty basic requirements to me for an individual managing millions of dollars for Ventura County. For the Star story by Tony Biasotti, go to: http://www.vcstar.com/news/2009/dec/15/supervisors-adopt-criteria-derailing-strickland/ For a humorous 12-17 letter to the editor by John Crisp of Ventura, titled, “No experience needed,” go to the link below, and scroll down to the last letter: http://www.vcstar.com/news/2009/dec/17/no-headline—ob7wclets17/
