As blizzards dump snow in much of the East, including Washington, D.C., we in the Conejo Valley have the sun beaming down on us! While I very conservatively wore a jacket on my morning walk, some folks in shorts ran by. Actually, they were better dressed for the temperature than I was.
This is my third or fourth stretch of time living in California. If you count a 1/2 year going to first grade in Pasadena, and year attending Stanford in Palo Alto, it is four. So far, in this last residency in the Golden State, I have been here 13-1/2 years and have fallen into the habit of taking our glorious weather for granted. I have even been known to make negative comments about the sameness of it all, having sunny day, after sunny day.
Well…I am going on record today to say that I am very happy about our SoCal climate! And, it allows me to grow amazing fruit trees. I just picked the first ever mandarin orange from a little tree I planted about three years ago. I am so jazzed! When my kids were little, I would always put a mandarin orange or two in their Christmas stockings, and now, I have my own tree. What a gift.

I know the thought of a white Christmas is romantic for many. But to go out and harvest my limes for Christmas beats shoveling snow for me!. I just love fresh lime juice for Christmas!
