Keep Local Politics Local and Nonpartisan!

January 29th, 2010 · 4 Comments · Conejo Valley, Ventura County

I just read an article in the Ventura County Star this morning, titled, “GOP asks Strickland to take on Parks, County group promises full support in race.”

To repeat from a previous post, Audra Strickland does NOT live in this Ventura County Supervisor’s District!  Audra lives in Peter Foy’s Supervisor District and he is up for election this year.

Here’s the deal…Linda Parks, besides serving us ably and well for 7, going on 8 years, actually lives in the district she is serving!  Linda represents us well.  I know from serving on the Triunfo Sanitation District with her, that she devotes care and attention to that job too, even though it is not a big deal compared to her Supervisor job.  And, when I attend the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council…there she is to give a report on what is happening in the county.  (To compare, I can only recall seeing the previous Supervisor, Frank Schillo at one Oak Park MAC meeting.)

What I am saying is that Linda takes her job very seriously, and knows our district.  I do not want Audra Strickland, or anybody else, moving here just to run for an office, backed by a lot of outside money.

And, what is the Ventura County Republican Central Committee doing, getting so involved with a nonpartisan race?  Sure, the parties have always been on the periphery of local races, like with sending out postcards with voting slates on them, but when have they ever been involved to this degree?  Besides, Linda Parks IS a Republican!

Political service is just that, service. I question whether Ms. Strickland has a desire to serve the people of Supervisory District 2 or if there are other motives involved here?

I am not the least bit surprised that the GOP is backing Audra the carpetbagger. I’m certain that is why she is running. The only question is, will we get a supervisor who is well qualified and whos electors love her or will we get a puppet who strings are pulled by big business. I love how things are in Ventura County and would hate it to go backwards again.

The GOP has proven itself to be so ideologically driven that they are shooting themselves in the foot. To stab at a fellow Republican like this shows they have no shame!

Whatever Ms. Strickland’s motive in running for Supervisor against Ms. Parks, and its most likely she’s just looking for a job, she needs to take a higher road in her election comments. We posted an editorial on the subject today on ConejoNow.com
