From a week of rain just last week, to sunshine and the beginning of spring this week…what a change we are experiencing. I took this photo of an ornamental tree, blooming in all its glory, at the Oaks Mall this afternoon.
So, in comment to the title, “What’s Blooming in the Conejo,” (besides pre-campaign political nonsense, originating with folks who do not live in the Conejo Valley…see immediately previous post), the answer is, trees, beautiful trees!

Hi Janna…greetings from West LA. The “ornamental trees” to which you refer are Evergreen Pear trees. No fruit, but beautiful white flowers–usually the first tree to bloom each year. Pyrus kawakamii

Thank you, Harvey! I was hoping a reader would know what the trees were…my best guess was some kind of apple. We miss you in Oak Park, but our loss is West L.A.’s gain.

The Pear trees on Kanan Road from TO Blvd to the county line should be in full bloom in a week or two. We call it Conejo snow! (and will probably use the snow reference when the arroyo willows bloom too) One more for the Pyrus clan, they are long lived beauties so the saying goes ‘You plant pears for your heirs’
