On Tuesday night, the Thousand Oaks City Council repealed the library fee of $70/year for library users living outside the city, and that was effective Wednesday.

I am very pleased. I was willing to pay the fee as a nonresident, but have always looked at the large T.O. Library on Janss Rd. as the “Main Library†for the Conejo Valley. The Agoura Hills, Oak Park, and Westlake Village libraries are like branches, just as the Newbury Park one is. I guess this comes from me growing up in Portland, Oregon, where there is a large, 3-story, traditional Main Library downtown, and in high school, I used to take the bus downtown to go there. I would check out not only books, but records and art prints. It was great!

I missed this City Council action on Tuesday evening, because I started watching the TV broadcast a few hours after the meeting began. So, I got this story is from The Star today. Here is a link to the article: http://www.venturacountystar.com/news/2009/jun/11/to-libraries-to-stop-charging-out-of-town-users/
