Norm Riley, former project manager of the Rocketdyne cleanup for the California Dept. of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), spoke this afternoon at the last open house of the American Cancer Museum of Education (ACME) in Chatsworth.
Mr. Riley spoke about the cleanup efforts and processes to a group of about 25 people , and answered questions.
Many local Rocketdyne activists campaigned hard to have Mr. Riley reinstated as project manager after he was asked to step down last fall. These activists included Christina Walsh and William Bowling of ACME, and Mary Wiesbrock and Sue Boecker of Save Open Space, among others. And, at this last gathering for the museum that she and William Bowling founded and ran, Christina Walsh wore a black t-shirt with the letters “WWNRD?” in white.
I was sad to attend this last ACME function and send many, many thanks to Christina and William for all the hard work they have done to get the SSFL cleaned up! I know they have plans to create an “ACME on wheels,” and I look forward that. (Please see post of yesterday (3-27), regarding the closing of ACME.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of ACMELA’s closing their doors…and mad at myself for not having made the effort to get over there and check out the treasure trove of artifacts and evidence…
You figure the funding will be ongoing, and then WHAM….
Hoping that Christina and William will find a suitable replacement, and additional support to continue their important work…
The Facebook group seems to be taking off nicely – hopefully they can join forces and support one another…
Everyone who is concerned about the SSFL cleanup needs to vote for Supervisor Linda Parks in the upcoming Ventura County Supervisor’s race. It is CRITICALLY important that we keep Supervisor Parks in office…
