Santa Susana Field Lab (SSFL) Public Input Meeting Thursday in the Conejo

April 7th, 2010 · No Comments · Uncategorized

The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) is holding a public “listening” meeting tonight  (4-7) at their office in Chatsworth, from 7 to 9:30 PM. to hear concerns about the Santa Susana Field Lab (SSFL) cleanup.  The address is 9211 Oakdale Avenue.  Thursday (4-8), they are putting on another public input meeting at the Oak Park Library at 899 Kanan Road in Oak Park.  This meeting is from 6:30 to 9 PM.

Rick Brausch of the DTSC wrote the following in an email on April 2, “This set of meetings is not intended to provide project related technical or update information.  Informational meetings to share that type of information will be planned and scheduled based on the feedback we receive from the community…” in the above meetings.

So, here are some meetings to share possible concerns and questions.  But, I would ask, have you seen any announcements in the papers about them?  I haven’t seen anything in my casual newspaper reading, but I am hoping meeting announcements have been published, and I missed them.  I do know that Mary Wiesbrock of Save Open Space and I did email Susan Callery of the DTSC last week to ask that the meeting location in Oak Park be changed to a larger room, so that more people could attend if there was interest.

That is not happening, so with the Oak Park Library room capacity only 40 people…come early if you want to give input.  The timing of the meetings during spring break also means that probably a lot of families will be out of town, so maybe attendance will balance out because of that.

There are two additional meetings scheduled.  One is April 19th in West Hills, and one is April 28th in Simi Valley.
