Ventura County Supervisor Linda Parks showed up and spoke at last night’s candidate forum at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, in her bid for re-election. The Ventura County Star article today (5-14), reported that Linda spoke about a smear campaign being waged against her, at the event, which was sponsored by the League of Women Voters. Quoting Linda from the Star, “Go at me for my record.” “Don’t make up my record.”
Supervisor candidate Audra Strickland declined to attend the forum. Instead, she went to a reception held by Rick Lemmo, senior V.P. of Caruso Affiliated, developer of the Westlake Promenade and the Lakes Shopping Center in T.O.
I think the choices of the two V.C. Supervisor candidates tells us a lot about their priorities. Going to the forum to me, equals speaking before the voters and the press. It is an easy way for a candidate to get the word out on their record and what they would do in office. To go to a developers’ party is off-record and does not let the vast majority of voters get to see a candidate in action, interacting with the opposing candidate.
Hmmm…how to choose where to go? If you were running for supervisor, which venue would you choose? People and press, or developer party? To read the 5-14 Star article by Kathleen Wilson, go to: http://www.vcstar.com/news/2010/may/13/parks-accuses-strickland-of-running-dishonest-as/

Audra Strickland cannot make her position more clear. Talking to the public is not important, the developers who are funding her campaign are. So what do you suppose she is going to do if she gets elected? Birds of a feather stick together….

If I were a serious candidate, I’d make sure I attended a public forum.
