All of us in the Conejo Valley have lucked out this past year with the cooler, wetter weather we have had. It was a tall order for all the water agencies in the Conejo to have to ask residents for around a 15% cutback in water use for the year starting July 1, 2009, and I think the weather helped a lot.
From the info I have received, sitting on the Triunfo Sanitation District board that owns Oak Park Water, local agencies are meeting the reduced-use goal! It is impressive that all of us have been able to change our behavior, mainly in regard to home irrigation. Congratulations to us! Now Conejo Valley agencies won’t be fined for noncompliance by Metropolitan Water District, that supplies most or all of the potable (drinking) water to us.
So, if we can just keep on keepin’ on in our new watering behaviors through June, we will be OK! And soon, we will be hearing what the allocations from MET will be for the next year, starting July 1st. I am assuming that allocations will stay the same. That is because, although there was a heavier snowpack this year that translates to more water coming through the Sacramento Delta (where we get most or all of our potable water), MET’s reservoirs are still very low. We will just have to stay tuned and see what the MET board decides. To see a graph on MET’s water storage, go to: http://www.mwdh2o.com/
