A few days ago,
I got reminded to check how my sprinklers were performing, when I noted the sprinkler head in the photo no longer extends high enough over the gazanias to have the water reach a dwarf lemon tree a few feet away.
A gardener’s work is never done! So, I looked over the rest of the irrigation system (it is so fun to call it that, because it sounds like I am supplying water for a farm or ranch!), to see if any of the directional sprinkler heads had to be turned a bit. The rest were A-OK.
We know now, that in SoCal, we are probably always going to have to be careful of our water use from now on, especially if we live in one of the water districts that draw most or all of their water from the Sacramento Delta. I am happy to note that the May water usage figures just came out for Oak Park Water Service (OPWS), and the 15% reduction is water use is continuing!
Now, if we can get through June, we will have met the target reduction set by supplier, Metropolitan Water District (MET), OPWS will avoid the fine that MET set for non-complying districts, in the year starting July 1, 2009. (Not to be confusing, the immediate wholesale supplier in east Ventura County is Calleguas Municipal Water District., and they buy the Sacramento Delta water from MET, and then sell to individual water districts. However, Las Virgenes Municipal Water District in L.A. County, buys direct from MET.) To check the water usage graph for OPWS, go to: www.TriunfoSanitationDistrict.com

LA Times reports today that the drought is over. Most of state’s reservoirs are full.

Why does Las Virgenes Water district web site still show we are approaching crisis levels? Why is my bill still going up? Inquiring Conejo Post readers want to know! :):)
