As of 4:00 this afternoon, I am proudly CPR and AED Certified, my first time ever! And, if you had asked me a week ago what AED stood for, I probably would have stared at you blankly, and now, I not only know it stands for Automatic External Defibrillator (actually, I had to look that up just now on Google), but I have a card that says I know how to use one!
I wanted to share this with Conejo Post readers, because the class was fun and interesting, only three hours long, and the certificate is good for two years. I took it at Wellness Mart, which is located in a small, new shopping mall on Thousand Oaks Boulevard, with Erbes as the nearest cross street. Wellness Mart operates on a new model of how to deliver health services, like vaccinations, school physicals, blood work, even DNA testing…to healthy people. I found it fascinating.
But, back to the CPR class. There were nine of us, and it was a congenial group. We all got to work on plastic, padded dummies, and the instructor explained things, using a 3-dimensional model of the human torso and head, with removable organs.
I recommend the class, and our teacher, Chris Spieth. (Thank goodness, that is his name. He is a great teacher, but not such a great writer of his name, which I orginally read as Auris Spirth!)
