Thanks to Ben Pankratz, longtime Conejo Valley hiker and photographer extrordinaire, for this photo of Boney Mountain. It is in the Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa Unit of the Santa Monica Mountain National Recreation Area (SMMNRA) in Newbury Park. Ben says he took the picture in the spring of 2006 from a trail that is no longer maintained, above the Danielson Monument.
The monument is near Old Boney Trail, and about 2.7 miles from the Wendy trail-head. For a link to learn more about Rancho Sierra Vista, go to: http://www.nps.gov/samo/planyourvisit/upload/RSV8-08.pdf
Ben and Lorraine Pankratz have lived in Thousand Oaks since 1964. Ben founded The Frame Gallery in 1990 in Agoura Hills, that is now owned and operated by daughter, Alisa. Prior to that, he worked as an engineer for over thirty years. To see another of Ben’s photos, go to: http://www.conejopost.com/?s=pankratz
