The Summit, A New Calabasas Mall on Lost Hills Road

August 6th, 2010 · 4 Comments · Conejo Valley, Development, Las Virgenes

As you can see in the photo, the name of the new mall at Lost Hills Road and Agoura Road is “The Summit at Calabasas.”  To me, it will always probably be, the mall where the little brown house used to be.  It was hard not to notice the little brown house beside the 101 Freeway, because it seemed so out of place.  It looked like a sweet little house at the top of a hill, close by Lost Hills Road.  I always wondered who lived there, and wasn’t it lonely to live there, with all the cars going by, and no neighbors.

Then, a while ago, the house was taken down, and building started on something much larger, like an office building, or shopping area.  As the building contined, the shape of the buildings became interesting.  Portions of roof areas tilted upward and jutted out and other walls were not at right angles.

The complex is now approaching completion, and I drove in to the parking lot last week to check it out.  I found the Summit charming from the inside parking area, while making a bold statement from the outside.  It is not the kind of architecture we usually have in the Conejo!  Perhaps the outside is a little busy, but I think it is fun too.

Nice picture. With so many complaints about the project and its architecture you have done the project justice. I think that we need something a little different. You can only have so many Promenades/Commons/Lakes.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on this one. Successful architecture is timeless….I predict that this will not be the case here. The Summit will be as bold as the Whizin Center in 2050.

I liked the little brown house better.

The architecture is, well, odd. The paint color is a poor choice. But I could live with all of that. The BIRD however is truly atrocious. It is an eyesore. I was shocked when I saw it up and can’t imagine who thought that would be a good idea.
