Economic and Environmental Treatment of Wastewater Sludge

August 6th, 2010 · 1 Comment · Agoura Hills, Conejo Valley, Green, Las Virgenes, Oak Park, Thousand Oaks, Triuinfo Sanitation District, Water Issues, Westlake Village

It is interesting how there is a trend to sanitize words.  Sewage treatment has become wastewater treatment, or we talk about sanitation.  That has led folks to ask me, when I say that I serve on the Triunfo Sanitation District (TSD) Board, where it is that we pick up garbage, and the question makes sense to me, even if it is sewage we are talking about sanitizing.  The major California sewage treatment agency group also calls themselves a group of “sanitation agencies,” and talks about “ensuring clean water.”

I thought about the clean-up word phenomena as I sat down to write about what the TSD and LVMWD partnership does with sewage sludge.  I just want you to know that I was tempted to say “wastewater byproducts,” but decided to use the word, “sludge,” instead, as being more honest.  I wrote a post on July 19th, “Let’s Talk Compost,” and am happy to report that the two boards did vote at the last partnership meeting to have  an independent study conducted on the compost-making costs and alternatives.  The 8-5  Acorn has a story by Sylvie Belmond on the compost, too:  http://www.theacorn.com/news/2010-08-05/Front_Page/Some_favor_dumping_the_compost_idea.html
