Grading for Westlake Village Park and Triunfo YMCA to Begin

June 26th, 2009 · No Comments · Westlake Village

The first step for preparing land for a new park in Westlake Village and the building of Triunfo YMCA facilities will begin in July.  That’s when grading and clearing  is scheduled  to begin on the Thousand Oaks Blvd. site, between Lindero Canyon Road and La Baya Drive, according to an article in The Acorn, 6-25.

The Acorn further stated that, the construction company,  Spirit Construction Inc., will take away almost 1.75 million cubic yards of dirt, leaving a 20-acre flat area, with 25 acres of sloping land around it.

My response is, wow… that’s a lot of dirt!  If you drive down Thousand Oaks Blvd. and look at the site now, there is very little flat land, so a tremendous amount of earth has to be moved.  I am wondering how many football fields  that would fill, and at what height?  Or, how many acres and at what height?

I am very pleased that the Triunfo YMCA is finally going to build a facility that will serve the east Conejo Valley.  The Acorn says it will include indoor pools, gyms and basketall courts.  Fantastic and much needed!  And, even though I don’t live in Westlake Village, I am pleased that the park will offer facilities for sand volleyball, skateboarding, baseball, hockey and soccer.  I bet that they will be used a lot.

I am just sorry that some hills have to come down to do it.
