Continuing an irrigation theme, does enyone know why some green, growing areas you see out of an airplane window, are circles, and why some are squares or rectangles?
My assumption is that it is easier and less expensive to irrigate in a circle, but also less efficient.

I remember my grandparents discussing this years ago. They were farmers, so they spent a long time discussing this pressing issue. As I recall, it has to do with the different kind of watering needs of a particular crop. The different squares, and circles have to do with crop rotation.
