You have to wonder at the decision-making process of a road crew that was putting up cones at the intersection of Thousand Oaks Boulevard and Kanan Road at 4 PM. I noticed the cones when I drove through the intersection and thought it must only concern my southbound lane. I didn’t think another thing about it.
Well, I should have. On my return, taking Kanan north from the 101 Freeway, the traffic was backed up. It took a number of minutes to ascertain why. Both directions of Kanan were reduced to one lane, so that the industrious road painting crew could put some new yellow paint of the crosswalks! Duh! Why rush hour?
But, I had such restraint. I didn’t even swear when I was sitting and waiting in the car, although I did have to grip the steering wheel tightly to stop from honking the horn!

I took a class recently at UCLA. It took me less time to leave UCLA, go through Westwood and get on the 405 Freeway, than it does to go from Sunnycrest/Kanan to the 101 Freeway. (That is without the painting.)
The intersection of Westwood and Wilshire is extremely busy. AAA consider it one of the busiest in the country.
So, It is easier to get through Westwood during rush hour than to travel the 2.2 miles from my home to the Freeway. There is something wrong here.
