Zuma Westward Beach Trilogy, Part I

September 1st, 2010 · 1 Comment · Malibu, Meditations, Outdoors

It is the first day of school in my neighborhood, and I decided it was a great morning to visit nearby Westward Beach in Malibu.  Kids would be back in schoolrooms, and there should be plenty of free parking along the frontage road.  Besides, the weather here in the Conejo Valley was blue-sky-beautiful, and I just assumed the weather would be the same at the beach.

Wrong!  At 10:30, while PCH at Kanan Dume was in the sun, the fog coallesced going down the hill on PCH to get to the beach turnoff.  Here is the photo of a highly decorated lifeguard station, in the fog, looking out toward the surf.

Of course, the beach is wonderful in any kind of weather, but I was hoping for some sun and warmth.  I guess I was not the only one, because I did not see even one person in the water, either at the edge of the waves, or swimming or surfing.  To see the Beach Trilogy at the beginning of the summer, go to Part I at:  http://www.conejopost.com/archives/2595#more-2595

There’s a Point Dume cam at http://www.watchthewater.org/beach.cfm?bid=51 that you can check before you go. (links are there to other LA county beaches too)It also has important information like the tide times and heights. I use it almost daily to determine if I can get to the point at Broad Beach on my jaunts.
Back in the day your beach was called ‘Free Zuma’ but it’s not all so free any more.
