An emailed press release today from the California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) announced that there are agreements in principle between the State and two federal agencies in regard to cleanup of the Santa Susana Field Lab (SSFL) in Simi Valley!
And, that these agreements between the California Dept. of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), the U.S. Dept. of Energy (DOE) and NASA, will meet “the strict environmental standards set by state law (SB 990).”
DOE is in charge of 290 acres at the SSFL and NASA’s portion of the facility is 451 acres, according to the Cal/EPA press release. In an emailed announcement from Rick Brausch, head of the SSFL cleanup project for the DTSC, he says, “DTSC is continuing negotiations with The Boeing Company regarding the cleanup of their portion of the site.” (I tried to copy a link to Rick Brausch’s email, but the URL would not wrap correctly.)
