As they say, “All good things must end,” and my year of service is up on the Ventura Regional Sanitation District Board (VRSD). For one year, I have represented 6 sanitation districts on the 9-person board, that includes 8 permanent board members from 8 cities in Ventura County. Now, Bill Murphy of Ojai Sanitation District will be representing the 6 districts.
My board, Triunfo Sanitation District, has requested a permanent seat on the VRSD board, because we contract most of our administrative and operational services to VRSD, to the tune of around $3 million per year. We sent a letter requesting that in July of this year, and it turns out the VRSD board will consider it at a goal-setting meeting in February. How’s that for speed?
Anyway, in the photo, I am receiving a “Commendation for Service,” along with Sue Horgan of the Ojai City Council, who incidentally, is very sharp, especially on fiscal matters. Jim Monohan, (who is a good guy) of the Ventura City Council and chair of VRSD, is presenting.
Basically, you suit up and show up for the meetings, and speak up occasionally, and you get a commendation. Heck of a deal!
I will still be attending meetings as a member of the public (sitting on the side of the room with no coffee and donuts…), because my board thinks we should have a rep there for fiscal oversight, whether on the board or not.
