Before Christmas, I heard through the grapevine that Superintendent Woody Smeck, the head person at our local National Park( Santa Monica National Recreation Area), was leaving in the spring to serve as Assistant head of Yosemite Park.
Yosemite’s gain is certainly the Conejo Valley’s loss! I attended the yearly banquet of the Las Virgenes Homeowners Federation last April, when Woody received their Citizen of the Year award. I do not know him personally, so I learned a lot from all the speakers who praised him so highly. A story in the 1-5 Acorn lauds his accomplishments. To quote L.A. County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky in the Acorn article, “Woody is one of the most talented public administrators and environmentalists I’ve ever known.”
