A lot of folks have been waiting to hear whether or not Elton Gallegly was going to run for Congress again. The wait is over, because he announced on Friday that he was not running again, according to an article in the 1-8 VC Star. Redistricting has changed the makeup of the 26th Congressional District, with Elton’s hometown, Simi Valley, no longer in the district. (He could still run, however, because a candidate for Congress does not have to have residence in the district in which he runs.)
So far, VC Supervisor, Steve Bennett has announced he is running for the office, along with some other Dems, but no Republican has announced yet. Talk is that State Senator Tony Strickland will run, and our VC Supervisor, Linda Parks has hinted strongly that she would run as well, if Elton retired.
What an interesting race this is going to be for the Conejo Valley! Especially since the primary in June is now an open one, with the top 2 vote-getters, no matter what party, being the final 2 candidates. We will have to stay tuned for the upcoming announcements…
