Back to School and Safety

September 7th, 2010 · No Comments · Agoura Hills, Education, Las Virgenes, Newbury Park, Oak Park, Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village

Unusual for the day after Labor Day…we have a misty and gray sky, as the kids head to school on the old traditional starting day.  Of course, most students now start back sooner, sometimes by weeks, but today is when my internal alarm clock tells me that it is time for the school year to begin.  Above is a [...]

Here are school start dates, hot off the internet!  In Thousand Oaks, Conejo Valley Unified School District started today, August 30.  Both Las Virgenes Unified School District and Oak Park Unified School District start Wednesday, September 1.  There go those lazy, hazy days of summer, that is, if we ever had them this summer!  There [...]

I have become aware of more information regarding the raid on the historic Smith family property in Stokes Creek in Calabasas on July 8, by city of Calabasas officials and law enforcement personnel.  It was first written about in the Conejo Post on August 27, in a post titled “Calabasas Septic Tank…” The Las Virgenes Homeowners Federation [...]

Ted alerted the Conejo Post to an article in the 8-25 Los Angeles Times, about a reported raid by city of Calabasas officials and L.A. County Sheriff deputies, on a 60-acre homesite in Stokes Canyon, to investigate the owners’ septic system, on July 8.  According to the article, the raid resulted in “ordering a pioneering [...]

An Election that Will be Happening

August 18th, 2010 · No Comments · Agoura Hills, Conejo Valley, Elections, Las Virgenes, Water Issues

While the Oak Park MAC will not be having an election, the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District will be.  That is because incumbent Jeff Smith is being challenged by Barry Steinhardt for the LVMWD board seat for Division 5, that includes Agoura Hills.  Jeff is designated as an aerospace manager on the ballot and Barry [...]

August 17th, 2010 · No Comments · Agoura Hills, Conejo Valley, Lake Sherwood, Las Virgenes, Oak Park, Thousand Oaks, Triuinfo Sanitation District, Water Issues, Westlake Village

If you live in the Triunfo Sanitation District or Las Virgenes Municipal Water District, you are invited to a tour to see partnership’s wastewater treatment and composting facilities in Calabasas. I know that a first thought about such a tour might be that it would be boring, but that is not the case!  It is interesting [...]

Parrots at Malibou Lake

August 12th, 2010 · 1 Comment · Conejo Valley, Green, Las Virgenes, Meditations, Outdoors

I’m sitting on my porch watching parrots…wild parrots…. eating acorns off my oak trees and dates off my palm tree.  Just curious, has anyone else had noticed the wild parrots of the Conejo Valley?  ( technically the flock I’m looking at are black headed parakeets)   For more info, go to: http://www.californiaparrotproject.org/index.html or http://scottsla.com/articles-parrots-wild-in-pasadena.htm Posted by Ted.  Editor [...]

Summit in Calabasas III

August 10th, 2010 · 5 Comments · Conejo Valley, Development, Education, Green, Las Virgenes

In this case, the developer went out of his way to appease the community. They had three different outreach meeting with the public to discuss the design and needs of the community. The overall concensus from those who attended (shame on you if you are complaining and didn’t voice your opinion) was that they didn’t [...]

Summit in Calabasas Part II

August 7th, 2010 · 4 Comments · Conejo Valley, Development, Las Virgenes

Here is a view of the parking lot of the Summit Mall on Lost Hills Road and Agoura Road, just off the 101 Freeway in Calabasas.  As mentioned in a previous post about the development, the architecture is quite distinctive, but it seems to me that there is room for a variety of styles in the Conejo [...]

August 6th, 2010 · 1 Comment · Agoura Hills, Conejo Valley, Green, Las Virgenes, Oak Park, Thousand Oaks, Triuinfo Sanitation District, Water Issues, Westlake Village

It is interesting how there is a trend to sanitize words.  Sewage treatment has become wastewater treatment, or we talk about sanitation.  That has led folks to ask me, when I say that I serve on the Triunfo Sanitation District (TSD) Board, where it is that we pick up garbage, and the question makes sense to me, [...]
