Back to School and Safety

September 7th, 2010 · 1 Comment · Agoura Hills, Education, Las Virgenes, Newbury Park, Oak Park, Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village

Unusual for the day after Labor Day…we have a misty and gray sky, as the kids head to school on the old traditional starting day.  Of course, most students now start back sooner, sometimes by weeks, but today is when my internal alarm clock tells me that it is time for the school year to begin.  Above is a [...]

Redundant But Cool

September 4th, 2010 · 1 Comment · Conejo Valley, Westlake Village

On this 100+ degree Saturday in the Conejo Valley, I wanted to share another photo of the splashing fountain at Westlake Village’s Promenade Mall. Mall owner and developer, Caruso Affiliated, surely has created an attractive and comfortable public gathering place around this fountain! Post and photo by Janna Orkney

Dashing Through the Flow

September 3rd, 2010 · No Comments · Green, Meditations, Outdoors, Westlake Village

The statue of the running boy seems suspended in the air at the fountain in Westlake Village’s Promenade Mall. I was sitting at a nearby table late this afternoon, enjoying the cooling mist coming from the fountain.  It suddenly occurred to me how beautiful the water display was, with the sun shining through and lighting it up. Here are school start dates, hot off the internet!  In Thousand Oaks, Conejo Valley Unified School District started today, August 30.  Both Las Virgenes Unified School District and Oak Park Unified School District start Wednesday, September 1.  There go those lazy, hazy days of summer, that is, if we ever had them this summer!  There [...]

How is the Conveyance System?

August 23rd, 2010 · No Comments · California, Conejo Valley, Lake Sherwood, Oak Park, Santa Susana Field Lab, Triuinfo Sanitation District, Ventura County, Water Issues, Westlake Village

I spent the end of last week at a California sewage agency conference.  With the sanitizing of words, it is actually called the California Association of “Sanitation” Agencies, “Ensuring Clean Water for California.”  One of the most interesting sessions was called “New Strategies for Renewing Wastewater Conveyance Systems,” which means, “How are you going to take [...]

Take a Tour and See how Wastewater is Treated

August 17th, 2010 · No Comments · Agoura Hills, Conejo Valley, Lake Sherwood, Las Virgenes, Oak Park, Thousand Oaks, Triuinfo Sanitation District, Water Issues, Westlake Village

If you live in the Triunfo Sanitation District or Las Virgenes Municipal Water District, you are invited to a tour to see partnership’s wastewater treatment and composting facilities in Calabasas. I know that a first thought about such a tour might be that it would be boring, but that is not the case!  It is interesting [...]

Westlake Village, Where the Sidewalk Ends

August 7th, 2010 · 1 Comment · Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village

Don’t get me wrong.  I like the city of Westlake Village.  I lived there in the first two years of my time in the Conejo Valley in the late 1990′s.  It was a great place to walk through the open space, or along Agoura Road, across from the Westlake Golf Course.  But, there were no sidewalks on major [...]

Economic and Environmental Treatment of Wastewater Sludge

August 6th, 2010 · 1 Comment · Agoura Hills, Conejo Valley, Green, Las Virgenes, Oak Park, Thousand Oaks, Triuinfo Sanitation District, Water Issues, Westlake Village

It is interesting how there is a trend to sanitize words.  Sewage treatment has become wastewater treatment, or we talk about sanitation.  That has led folks to ask me, when I say that I serve on the Triunfo Sanitation District (TSD) Board, where it is that we pick up garbage, and the question makes sense to me, [...]

We Are Talking About Disappearing Trees, Folks!

August 2nd, 2010 · No Comments · Conejo Valley, Development, Outdoors, Westlake Village

A few posts ago, I shared a photo of the debris basin on Thousand Oaks Boulevard for the Westlake Village Sports Park.  It is located on the north side of the street, between Lindero Canyon Road and Via Colinas.  Please see Ted’s comment to that post, because he has a link to a photo from Google [...]

Filings and Papers for Triunfo And OP MAC

August 2nd, 2010 · 1 Comment · Conejo Valley, Elections, Lake Sherwood, Oak Park, Thousand Oaks, Triuinfo Sanitation District, Westlake Village

This evening, I did a check at the Ventura County website on Triunfo Sanitation District candidate papers and filings, along with Oak Park MAC.  Here is the latest, as of August 2nd. For TSD, incumbent Janna Orkney has filed (hey, that’s me!), along with Ray Tjulander of  T.O., and Phil Janke, Michael McReynolds, and Ron Stark [...]
