What’s Going on with these Trees?

May 16th, 2011 · No Comments · Agoura Hills, Green, Outdoors

A long row of trees between Canwood Street and the 101 Freeway in Agoura Hills, looks dead.  I took this photo about two weeks ago, and the trees are brown, with no greenery.  It is a mystery.  Check it out yourself.  The trees are just west of the Reyes Adobe overpass on the 101.

Beaucoup Roses!

May 6th, 2011 · No Comments · Agoura Hills, California, Conejo Valley

What a bumper crop of rose blooms this spring!  Pictured are 3 or 4 rose bushes in my front yard, that are just covered with flowers.   I wish I knew the variety, but I do not, but I do know that I see these roses throughout the Conejo Valley.  Agoura Hills even has them [...]

Close-up of Caltrans Light Fixture

April 22nd, 2011 · No Comments · Agoura Hills, California, Conejo Valley, Economy, Ventura County

Here is a photo of a light fixture on the new Reyes Adobe 101 Freeway overpass.  As I said in a previous post, it is a very old fashioned style that doesn’t match anything in the Conejo Valley, that I know of. Incidentally, I saw another overpass with these lights, besides Rose Avenue in Oxnard.  [...]

Joining the Gathering at the Post Office this Evening

April 19th, 2011 · No Comments · Agoura Hills, Conejo Valley

Well, it was not exactly, or even sort of, a party, but I was there at 5:30 at the Agoura Hills Post Office, to drop my manilla envelope in the mail slot, along with a lot of other folks. I don’t like to admit it, but I put off working on the tax return this year and [...]

Eco-nerd’s Take on the Landscaping and Planting by the New 101 Freeway On and Off Ramps

April 19th, 2011 · No Comments · Agoura Hills, California, Conejo Valley, Green, Outdoors, Ventura County, Water Issues

I wrote a critical post about, not only the light fixtures used in the Reyes Adobe 101 Freeway construction, but the plantings as well.  Here is a look at the landscaping, with a critical eye towards conservation. Eco-nerd:  “Don’t hate on the landscape just yet. I think that native plants say something about our community and our commitment [...]

A Restaurant Review of Jinky’s in Agoura Hills by Monica

April 18th, 2011 · 1 Comment · Agoura Hills, Conejo Valley, Restaurants

We had dinner at the new Jinky’s cafe next to Trader Joe’s, on Canwood Road in Agoura Hills (between the Kanan Road and Chesebro exits on the 101 Freeway).    We liked the extensive menu, nice decor, great service, reasonable prices.  Dinner for four adults with varied taste was easily accommodated.  Dishes sampled ranged from veggie pasta, grilled chicken, shrimp [...]

New Overpass Lighting in Agoura Hills

April 15th, 2011 · 2 Comments · Agoura Hills, California, Conejo Valley, Development, Economy, Ventura County

I don’t get it.  The style of the Agoura Hills City Hall may be Craftsman, which harks back to the early 1900′s, but the style of the new light fixtures on the Reyes Adobe overpass goes back further in time than that. The old-style fixtures are out of sync with the Conejo Valley!  Why install old-fashioned looking lighting?  Not [...]
