January 3rd, 2012 · No Comments · Malibu, Outdoors

When I saw in the VC Star weather report this morning, that it was going to be around 80 degrees at Malibu beaches today, I was thrilled!  What an amazlingly high temperature for a SoCal beach in the winter!  I wasn’t able to slip away this afternoon and check it out myself, but I did [...]

The Beach is Calling!

May 26th, 2011 · No Comments · California, Conejo Valley, Malibu, Oak Park

What’s a Conejo Valley rez going to do!  We have almost every nature delight we could want in the Conejo except for the ocean, and, on a beautiful and balmy day like today, that is where I want to be. Whether I will get there, to wiggle my toes in the sand, is another matter, because the semi-retired state seems [...]

Tar and Sympathy

June 11th, 2010 · 1 Comment · Conejo Valley, Green, Malibu, Meditations, Outdoors

No, this is not about the 1956 Vincent Minnelli movie, “Tea and Sympathy,” starring Deborah Kerr.  As you may have gathered by the photo to the left, of the line of pelicans flying along just above the ocean and beyond the breakers,  this is about the ocean and beach. Election Day afternoon, I visited Westward Beach [...]

Beach Trilogy I, The Lifeguard Stations

June 5th, 2010 · 3 Comments · California, Malibu, Meditations, Outdoors

The lifeguard stations at Westward Beach in Malibu are sporting a new look.  Gone is the solid light blue paint for the structure, including porch and ramp.  Now, each has unique, bright graphics with a matching trim color for railings and foundation pieces. We don’t get the full affect in the photo at the left [...]

Beach Trilogy II, The Surfers

June 5th, 2010 · 1 Comment · California, Malibu, Meditations, Outdoors

The three surfers were chatting in front of where I was sitting on the beach, this morning.  They were having fun sticking their boards upright in the sand, and one even flipped his board in the air and had it land on its point in the sand and remain standing.  Then, they walked on, boards [...]
